Rutgers School of Criminal Justice has a long and illustrious history. For over thirty-five years, SCJ has been a leader in the field of criminology and criminal justice. Few programs can match the contributions of our faculty to theory and practice. Rutgers School of Criminal Justice continues to rank among the top criminal justice programs nationwide and is situated on the most diverse campus in the country in one of the nation’s most vibrant urban centers.

Rutgers School of Criminal Justice offers a quality education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our undergraduate program currently has about 400 majors and is one of the largest and fastest growing programs at the University. The faculty recently approved a new Masters program geared toward mid-career professionals or those who are interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice policy or administration. Our Ph.D. program is ranked as one of the best in the nation. Students come from far and wide, many from the international community. The Ph.D. program prepares graduates for a career in academia or research. Many of our alumni have academic appointments at prestigious universities and continue to exert a large influence on the field.

The School of Criminal Justice has some of the world's leading scholars who have devoted many years to research, much of which has been at the cutting edge, and then teaching from that research to generations of students, who have gone on to career success. The School is here for students and for the community - our Faculty are among the best, and we are all fortunate to be in a great university. This combination of factors will, I trust, lead to a solid and rewarding education, and I trust that all our efforts will produce worthwhile results across a wide spectrum.

The School of Criminal Justice is located on the Rutgers-Newark campus, ranked the most diverse national university in the United States for twelve years running. We are proud of this standing. We recognize that the diversity of our students and faculty enhances the educational experience across the SCJ curriculum. Being in an urban university in a vibrant, revitalized Newark provides wonderful opportunities for engagement with city, state, national and international agencies in a broad range of crime prevention and criminal justice activities.

Come and take a look at us.
