Community Life

Newark’s celebrated diversity is manifested in the form of festivals and parades that bring people together throughout the year. In March, local Irish pubs like McGovern’s—across the street from R-N’s Center for Law and Justice—are overflowing with the music of bagpipes and drums for the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Every April, Newark’s Branch Brook Park is pretty-in-pink under a canopy of some of the most beautiful cherry blossom trees in the country. And throughout the summer, the African-American Heritage Day parade, the Portuguese Day parade and festival, and the Brazilian Independence Day festival are just a few events that take over the streets. Go to the City of Newark festivals Web page for a complete list.
