Newark’s celebrated diversity is manifested in the form of festivals and parades that bring people together throughout the year. In March, local Irish pubs like McGovern’s—across the street from R-N’s Center for Law and Justice—are overflowing with the music of bagpipes and drums for the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Every April, Newark’s Branch Brook Park is pretty-in-pink under a canopy of some of the most beautiful cherry blossom trees in the country. And throughout the summer, the African-American Heritage Day parade, the Portuguese Day parade and festival, and the Brazilian Independence Day festival are just a few events that take over the streets.
